My students as a whole have a greater sense of self worth. They understand responsibilities better and develop positive relationships with adults. They also learn to respect all living things and why all living things deserve dignity.     -Warriors Academy

This program enhances the fundamental life skills & personal development of children and youth by providing pro-social, leadership and work/college-readiness through Trauma-Informed Care-Equine-Assisted Services and Therapies (TIC-EAST).

These programs strengthen the social-emotional development, cognition, and resiliency and restoration of children and youth who have endured adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), stress and/or traumatic events. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly increased the need for these therapies, as our children/youth’s mental health has been greatly harmed through isolation, the inability of schools’ after-school programs and agencies to remain open, along with dealing with the trauma and realities of the death of family members.

Small Miracles’ staff facilitates the experiential moments the horses provides, allowing the students to “feel”, process and apply what has been learned. Our passion at Small Miracles is to offer hope and healing; a sense of belonging, connection and trust, while equipping the children and youth with the necessary skills to heal from their adverse experiences, transition into healthy emerging adults, and become self-sufficient adults who contribute to this community.

Small Miracles’ passion is to assist our students to live life to the fullest, discover self-worth through the innate, intuitive healing power of the horse by offering this program pro bono to the underserved, vulnerable children and youth.

SUCCESS STORY

Positive Youth Development Program

“B” began participating at Small Miracles through a court-appointed residential group home.

“I really don’t even know who my parents are. I used to live with my grandfather, but don’t have a place to live now.”

Almost immediately during his first day at Small Miracles he experienced connection, a sense of belonging and a willingness to to experience and learn about horses and agriculture. His kind, generous demeanor towards the horses and his peers helped cultivate his leadership abilities, fostering teamwork. A hard worker, “B” assisted a staff and Board of Directors member replacing broken fence lines, as he felt a sense of responsibility to keep our horses safe. He continues to thrive, graduating high school and attends vocational/technical school.
